Lacquers
René Gruau's lacquers are a limited edition.
They are evocative of Jean DUNAND's lacquer folding screens, a climax of the Art Deco movement and the « Décoration du Paquebot le Normandie ».
The lacquer technique, applied in Asia for over 5000 years, exploits natural materials such as resin, stones and eggshells to create a frame that can support up to 25 layers of lacquer, that are left to dry individually until a smooth and shiny surface is obtained.
In the lacquers of René GRUAU silver, gold, eggshells and nacre are used.
